Resumo O trabalho faz um percurso por passagens das obras de Santo Agostinho, Nietzsche e Walter Benjamin a partir de certos temas propostos por Jacques Derrida, com destaque para a questão da tradução e da escrita como inscrição de si. O problema (o Aufgabe benjaminiano, ou seja, tarefa necessária e impossível) é como traduzir o intraduzível, a saber, a vida, a necessidade e impossibilidade dessa tradução, narrada a partir da filosofia desses quatro autores.

Abstract This paper examines passages of works by Saint Augustine, Nietzsche and Walter Benjamin based on certain themes proposed by Jacques Derrida, with an emphasis on the issue of translation and writing as an inscription of the self. The problem (the Benjaminian Aufgabe, that is, a necessary and impossible task) is how to translate the untranslatable, namely, the life, the necessity and the impossibility of this translation, narrated from the philosophy of these four authors.

Résumé Le texte réalise un parcours à travers des passages des œuvres de Saint Augustin, Nietzsche et Walter Benjamin basés sur certains thèmes proposés par Jacques Derrida, en mettant l'accent sur la question de la traduction et de l'écriture comme inscription de soi. Le problème (Aufgabe Benjaminien, c'est-à-dire une tâche nécessaire et impossible) est de savoir comment traduire l'intraduisible, à savoir, la vie, le thème de la nécessité et l'impossibilité de cette traduction, racontée à partir de la philosophie de ces quatre auteurs.

Resumo Walter Benjamin escreveu muito sobre cidades e arquitetura ao longo de sua obra. Seja em jornais de viagens, em ensaios dedicados a determinadas formações urbanas, em textos autobiográficos, na sua teoria do flâneur, ou em sua teoria estética, as cidades sempre estiveram em um local central. A cidade ideal de Benjamin não é clássica, “bela”, mas, antes, marcada pela circulação de pessoas, pela “interpenetração” (Durchdringung) e pela “porosidade”. Essa cidade perfurada se metamorfoseia em sua própria filosofia da história, já que pare ele também o tempo é poroso.

Abstract Walter Benjamin wrote a lot about cities and architecture as we can see in his lifework. We find then in the canter of his thoughts in his travel diaries, in essays dedicated to some specific urban formations, in autobiographical texts, in his flâneur and in his esthetical theory. His ideal city was not classical and “beautiful” but rather characterized by the people circulation, by “interpenetration” (Durchdringung) and “porosity”. This pierced city is metamorphosed inside his history philosophy where he imagines a porous time.

Resumo Este trabalho apresenta como a teoria das imagens técnicas culmina, no filósofo Vilém Flusser, em uma teoria da cidade como Gesamtkunstwerk (obra de arte total). Esse conceito, que tem uma origem romântica e ficou conhecido sobretudo por conta da ópera de Wagner, descrita como uma tal obra de arte total, é radicalmente modificado por Flusser, que imagina uma sociedade cibernética na qual todos se transformaram em artistas. A arte voltou a ser técnica, numa sociedade totalmente artificial na qual tudo também é arte e a população de artistas constrói suas obras máximas, que são as próprias cidades.

Abstract This paper discusses how technical images theory led philosopher Vilém Flusser to a theory of the city as Gesamtkunstwerk (total artwork). This concept, originated in Romanticism, became more familiar through Wagner’s operas (that were described as total artworks), and was radically changed by Flusser, who imagined a cybernetic society populated only by artists. Art now became technical again, in a totally artificial society in which everything is also art and the artist population builds its great works , which are the cities.

Resumo Este ensaio apresenta uma reflexão sobre o fenômeno dos "antimonumentos" que surgiram no final do século XX como uma forma de lidar, pelo viés das artes, com a violência de Estado, como nos casos do nazismo e das ditaduras latino-americanas. Este texto faz inicialmente uma retomada da mnemotécnica, ou seja, da antiga "arte da memória", que tem como seu pai mítico Simônides de Ceos, para em seguida apresentar a cena moderna da "arte da memória" sob a rubrica dos antimonumentos. O trabalho apresenta e discute obras de, entre outros artistas, Jochen Gerz, Horst Hoheisel, Andreas Knitz, Marcelo Brodsky e Fulvia Molina.

Abstract The essay presents a reflection upon the "antimonuments" phenomena that emerged in the end of the 20th century as a way to deal with authority violence through art, as in the case of Nazism and the Latin American dictatorships. The text begins with an explanation of the mnemotechnic, which means the old "art of memory" that had Simonides of Ceos as its mythic father. Then, the text goes on presenting the contemporary "art of memory" under the sign of "antimonuments". The work also shows and discusses the works of Jochen Gerz, Horst Hoheisel, Andreas Knitz, Marcelo Brodsky and Fulvia Molina, among other artists.

Resumen Este ensayo presenta una reflexión sobre el fenómeno de los "antimonumentos", que surgieron a finales del siglo XX como una forma de abordar, a través de las artes, la violencia del Estado, como en los casos del nazismo y de las dictaduras latinoamericanas. Inicialmente, este texto retoma la mnemotécnica, es decir, el antiguo "arte de la memoria", que tiene a Simónides de Ceos como su padre mítico, y luego presenta la escena moderna del "arte de la memoria", bajo la rúbrica de los antimonumentos. En este trabajo se presenta y se discute obras de artistas como Jochen Gerz, Horst Hoheisel, Andreas Knitz, Marcelo Brodsky y Fulvia Molina, entre otros.

Résumée L'essaye présente une réflexion sur le phénomène des "contremonuments" qui ont été construits à la fin du 20ème siècle comme une façon de considérer, à travers l'art, la violence d'État, par exemple les cas du nazisme et des dictatures en Amérique Latine. Le texte commence pat une récapitulation de l'ancienne mnémotechnique, à savoir, l'art de la mémoire ancienne, qui possède comme père mythique Simonide de Céos. Dans un deuxième pas, il présente la scène actuelle de l'art de la mémoire sous la rubrique des contremonuments. Le travail présente et analyse d'œuvres, d'entre outres artistes, de Jochem Gerz, Horst Hoheisel, Andreas Knitz, Marcelo Brodsky et Fulvia Molina.

Resumo O artigo apresenta a obra de duas artistas da memória, ambas da América Latina, uma brasileira, Leila Danziger, outra argentina, Eugenia Bekeris. Cada uma delas tem uma poética própria e muito original. Ambas têm como herança a terrível memória da Shoah, o holocausto. Nas duas artistas, vemos imagens e palavras se juntarem em uma arte da memória poderosa e ao mesmo tempo delicada. Com suas obras, podemos tanto olhar de mais perto a paisagem em ruínas do século XX, como também repensar nosso próprio presente de modo mais crítico.

Abstract The article presents the works of two artists involved with the connection between art and memory. Both come from Latin America: one from Brazil, Leila Danziger, the other from Argentina, Eugenia Bekeris. Both have developed particular and original poetics. Both have received the memory of Shoah, Holocaust, as a terrible heritage. In their work, we can see images and words coming together to create a powerful and at the same time delicate art of memory. With their works we are able to both, see from a closer spot the ruinous landscape of the 20th century, and rethink our own present from a more critical point of view.

Este texto apresenta uma reflexão sobre a difícil inscrição na memória cultural dos fatos violentos ocorridos na ditadura civil-militar no Brasil (1964-1985). Ele desenvolve uma análise da precariedade dessas inscrições, que têm que enfrentar a ausência de ressonância na esfera pública. A privatização do trabalho da memória bloqueia a elaboração lutuosa e jurídica dos fatos terríveis ocorridos naquele período. O autor procura mostrar as estratégias de apresentação desse passado e a sua difícil inscrição a partir dos trabalhos de artistas como Rosângela Rennó, de fotógrafos e de escritores, como Renato Tapajós e Urariano Mota.

This text presents a reflexion on the difficulties of the inscription of the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship (1964-1985) and its violent stories. It develops an analysis of the precarious character of those inscriptions, which have to deal with an absence of eco in the public sphere. A privatization of the memory work blocs the mourning and the juridical elaboration of the terrible facts of that period. The author tries to show the strategies of presentation of this past and its tough inscription departing from the works of artists (as Rosângela Rennó), photographers and novelists (as Renato Tapajós and Urariano Mota).

O texto possui três partes. Na primeira o autor assume a identidade do personagem Rotpeter, de Kafka, e escreve sobre a questão dos animais no escritor de Praga. Na segunda parte faz-se uma incursão sobre as origens da questão da animalidade na nossa cultura moderna. Para tanto o autor retoma questões tratadas desde a fundação da Estética, assim como ilumina o encontro entre a reflexão estética e a ciência (com estaque para Darwin e sua teoria da origem das espécies). Na conclusão o texto mostra como esse debate em torno da questão animal e da "natureza" pode ser pensado no contexto do tema biopolítico da compaixão. Nesse momento retoma-se duas obras de J.M. Coetzee, mostrando em que medida a compaixão e a caridade podem estar na origem de uma simples tutela autoritária do "outro".

The text has three parts. In the first step, the author assumes the identity of the character created by Kafka, Rotpeter, and writes about the question of animality in the works of the writer from Prague. In the second part, there is a discussion about the origins of the topos of animality in the contemporary culture. For that, the author retrieves topics that emerged at the foundation of the Aesthetics, as well as presents the crossings among aesthetics and science (specially the theorem of the origin of the species, by Darwin). In the conclusion, the text shows how this debate about the animal and the"nature" issues can be though in the context of the biopolitical issue of compassion. At this point, the author bases his discussion on two books by J.M. Coetzee, and shows how compassion and charity can be at the origin of an authoritarian tutelage of the "other".

Le texte comporte trois parties. Dans la première l'auteur assume l'identité du personnage Rotpeter, de Kafka, et écrit sur la question des animaux chez l'écrivain de Prague. Dans la deuxième, on fait une incursion sur les origines de la question de l'animalité dans notre culture moderne. Pour cela l'auteur reprend des questions traitées depuis la fondation de l'Esthétique de la même manière qu'il illumine la rencontre de la réflexion esthétique et de la science (surtout chez Darwin avec sa théorie de l'origine des espèces) Dans la conclusion le texte montre comment ce débat autour de la question de l'animal et de la "nature" peut être pensé dans le contexte du thème biopolitique de la compassion. On y reprend alors deux oeuvres de J. M. Coetzee, faisant voir dans quelle mesure la compassion et la charité peuvent être à l'origine d'une simple tutelle autoritaire de l'"autre".

O trabalho apresenta uma leitura do romance de Guimarães Rosa de 1956 do ponto de vista de uma série de topoi desenvolvidos dentro da teoria da confissão e do testemunho: Riobaldo testemunha passagens de sua vida diante de um ouvinte/dos leitores. A violência do sertão, derivada em parte do jogo entre a anomia e a lei da força, desdobra-se nas angústias derivadas do amor impossível por Diadorim. Como em muitos textos de forte "teor testemunhal", a fragmentação da memória e a sua espacialização guiam o fluxo da narrativa. Constrói-se ao longo do livro uma "topografia da memória", que é lida como uma encenação de uma memória do trauma. Oscilando entre testemunho e confissão, o texto permite uma leitura do trabalho literário funcionando como a encenação de um teatro da memória da "catástrofe". O tema da relação intrínseca entre lei e violência, assim como o espetáculo do corpo em dor, também presentes no livro, são outras características de atos testemunhais. Apresenta-se também o elemento falocêntrico do testemunho e da confissão atuando no romance. Mostra-se como tudo fica muito mais interessante ao vermos estes topoi atuando dentro de um texto sofisticado de ficção, que também os transforma.

The work presents a interpretation of João Guimarães Rosa novel from 1956 from the point of view of some topoi developed inside the theories of testimony and confession: Riobaldo witnesses some moments of his life before a listener/reader. The violence of "sertão", a consequence of the play between anomie and force, unfolds itself in the anguish derived from the impossible love to Diadorim. As in many other texts with strong "testimonial tenor", the memory fragmentation and its spacialization guide the narrative stream. The work built a "topography of memory" that is analysed as a simulation of a traumatic memory. Oscillating between testimony and confession, the text authorizes a reading of the literary work functioning as the mise en scène of a memory of a catastrophe. The question of the intrinsic relation between law and violence, as much as the spectacle of the body in pain, that we can also read in this novel, are other characteristics of testimonial acts. The essay presents too the falocentric element that is present both in confession and testimony as well as in this book. It is showed that the presentation of all those testimonial and confessional elements inside a sophisticated work of fiction send also a new light over those topoi.

Ce travail présente une lecture du roman de João Guimarães Rosa publié en 1956 à partir d'une série de topoi développés dans la théorie de la confession et du témoignage: Riobaldo témoigne de certains passages de sa vie devant un auditeur / des lecteurs. La violence du "sertão", provenant en partie du jeu entre l'anomie et la loi de la force, se déplie dans les angoisses dérivées de l'amour impossible de Diadorim. Comme dans maints textes à fort "contenu testimonial", la fragmentation de la mémoire et sa spatialisation guident le flux narratif. Il se construit tout au long du livre une "topographie de la mémoire», qui est lue comme la mise en scène d'un théâtre de la mémoire de la "catastrophe". Le thème du rapport intrinsèque entre la loi et la violence, de même que le spectacle du corps souffrant, également présents dans le livre, constitue d'autres caractéristiques de l'acte testimonial. On y présente aussi l'élément phallocentrique du témoignage et de la confession en action dans le roman. On montre comment tout devient plus intéressant lorsque nous voyons ces topoi dans un texte sophistiqué de fiction qui les transforme à son tour.

O trabalho propõe uma reflexão sobre algumas das características do gesto testemunhal enfatizando as aporias que o marcam. Partindo da idéia de que o testemunho de certo modo só existe sob o signo de seu colapso e de sua impossibilidade, o texto enfatiza os dilemas nascidos da confluência entre a tarefa individual da narrativa do trauma e de sua componente coletiva. Nas "catástrofes históricas", como nos genocídios ou nas perseguições violentas em massa de determinadas parcelas da população, a memória do trauma é sempre uma busca de compromisso entre o trabalho de memória individual e outro construído pela sociedade. O testemunho é analisado como parte de uma complexa "política da memória".

The text carries out a reflection about some of the main issues concerning the gesture of testimony, highlighting the apories of witnessing. Departing from the idea that testimony only exists under the sign of its collapse and impossibility, the essay stresses the dilemmas raised from the convergence between the individual task of the trauma storytelling and its collective component. In historical catastrophes, as in the cases of genocides or violent mass persecutions of particular groups of people, the memory of the trauma is always a search for a compromise between the individual memory work and another, more collective. The testimony is analyzed as a part of a complex "politics of memory".

O autor analisa a relação entre a arte e a representação da dor partindo de uma tese central: a arte desde o romantismo tendeu cada vez mais para a apresentação do "real" enquanto aquilo que escapa ao simbólico. A arte vincula-se cada vez mais a uma apresentação (e não mais à representação) do momento violento constitutivo do ser humano. Na contemporaneidade, o autor detecta três modalidades dessa arte de apresentar a dor: a que parte de uma abordagem ética da memória (como em Anselm Kiefer e Claude Lanzmann), a que radicaliza o olhar estético inaugurado no século XVIII (como em Francis Bacon) e a que leva às últimas conseqüências a noção de arte abjeta (como em Andres Serrano). O autor destaca ainda a importância dos conceitos de sublime e de escritura (indexical) do corpo para se compreender essa nova modalidade da arte da dor, bem como a sua relação estrutural com a fotografia.

The present paper analyses the existing relations between art and representation of pain, taking as central thesis the idea that, since romanticism, art has increasingly tended to a presentation of the "real", understood as that what escapes our power to symbolise. Art bonds itself more and more to presentation (instead of representation) of the constitutive violent moment of human being. Throughout the article, the author describes three modalities of the art of presenting pain in contemporary culture: one that draws from an ethic approach of memory (as in Anselm Kiefer and Claude Lanzmann), one that radicalises the aesthetic gaze inaugurated in the Eighteenth century (as Francis Bacon), and one that takes abject art to its ultimate consequences (as does Andres Serrano). The author also point out the importance of concepts such as the sublime and (indexal) body writing to understand this new modality of the art of pain, as well as its structural relation to photography.

L'auteur analyse le rapport entre l'art et la représentation de la douleur à partir d'une thèse centrale: depuis le romantisme l'art tend de plus en plus vers la présentation du « réel » comme quelque chose qui échappe au symbolique. L'art se lie toujours plus à une présentation (et non à la représentation) des moments violents qui constituent l'être humain. L'auteur détecte trois modalités dont l'art se sert pour présenter la douleur dans le monde contemporain : celle qui part d'une approche éthique de la mémoire (comme chez Anselm Kiefer et Claude Lanzmann), celle qui radicalise le regard esthétique inauguré au XVIIIe. siècle (comme chez Francis Bacon) et celle qui porte la notion de l'art abjecte à ses dernières conséquences (comme chez Andres Serrano). L'auteur met encore en relief l'importance des concepts de sublime et d'écriture (indexée) du corps pour que l'on puisse comprendre cette nouvelle modalité de l'art de la douleur aussi bien que son rapport structural à la photographie.

O texto apresenta dois modelos da tradução que caracterizaram o século XVII e XVIII mas que podem ser vistos como paradigmáticos na Teoria da Tradução. 1) O modelo retórico que defende a possibilidade de tradução e enfatiza a adaptação do original ao "gosto" do público de chegada. 2) O modelo que afirma a impossibilidade da tradução, a intraduzibilidade: a) quer porque se valoriza no texto (e sobretudo na escrita dita poética) justamente os seus aspectos mais sensuais e, portanto, indissociáveis da língua de partida; b) quer porque se afirma o relativismo cultural e a intraduzibilidade entre as culturas; c) quer porque se afirma não apenas a impossibilidade de separação entre os significados e os significantes, mas se define o próprio significante e as identidades de um modo geral como sendo um resultado de um jogo diferencial.

The article presents two translation models that were typical in the XVII and XVIII centuries, but can also be seen as paradigmatics in the field of Translation Studies: 1) The rhetorical model that defends the possibility of translation and emphasizes the necessity of adapting the "original" to the "taste" of the target public. 2) The model that affirms the impossibility of translation, the non-translatability: a) because the sensual elements that are linked to the language of the "original" are praised; b) because there is a defense of the cultural relativism and of the non-translatability between cultures; c) or because there is a defense not only of the impossibility to separate signifiers and meaning, but also because there is a definition of the signifier and of all identities as being the result of a differential game.
